Julio Ramos was born in 1965 in Caguas, Puerto Rico. He graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, School of Theater and Education in 1991. That same year, he participated in the V Workshop of the School of Theater of Latin America and the Caribbean in Essen, Germany.
Ramos continued his acting training with workshops from the Yuyachkani theater group from Peru and the renowned Brazilian playwright Augusto Boal. For 10 years, he worked with the Puerto Rican teacher and director Gilda Navarra, starring in works such as Acto sin Palabras, Eleuterio y el Coquí, and El Múcaro y la Minina.
In 1995, he joined the Agua, Sol y Sereno theater group and has since worked in various areas of theatrical work, including acting, mime, stilt driving, juggling, set design, stage management, and teaching. He has also created his own one-man show, 7 veces Siete, which premiered in February 2005.
Ramos has had the opportunity to participate in over 28 theater festivals in various countries, including Germany, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Cuba, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, and the United States. His film credits include Imprisoned, Broche de Oro... the beginning, Galán, The Rum Diary, The Argentine, Kabo & Plaón, El Clown, Cayo, Password, Thieves and Liars, Last Flight Out, Cuentos de Abelardo, La Guagua Aérea, Mi día de suerte, Que sera, sera, and more.
In television, Ramos has appeared in shows such as Off The Map, Wrecked, Startup, Desamores, Hay hombres para todas, Victoria, Revolución en el infierno, and more. Some of his notable theatrical pieces include Angeles in America, Tartufo, Una de Cal y Otra de Arena, La verdadera Historia de Pedro Navaja, Los Coyotes, El Olor del Pop Corn, Máscaras Afuera, Etiqueta para Machotes de Caché, Lazarillo de Tormes, and many others.
Ramos has received several awards and recognitions, including Best National Actor for El Gallo Pinto, Festival Internacional Cine Fiesta (2008),Best National Actor for Contraseña, Rincón International Film Festival (2010),and Best National Actor for Galán, French Alliance International Film Festival (2015). The newspaper El Nuevo Día selected him as one of the 3 best theater directors of 2004 for the play Aire. The City of Caguas, PR dedicated the XIV School Theater Festival (2010) to him.
