Ben and Julien Deka, the sibling duo behind the Deka Brothers, grew up in a picturesque French village surrounded by the influences of Japanese anime, US movies, and European literature, which continue to shape their creative endeavors to this day.
Their debut feature film, Sodium Babies, was a labor of love that they wrote, directed, produced, and handled the visual effects for. The film's success at the Leeds International Film Festival, UK, earned it a Special Mention of the Jury award, catching the attention of Los Angeles producers and prompting the Deka Brothers to relocate to the States to pursue their filmmaking ambitions.
Upon settling in America, they have directed a diverse range of projects, including short films, web series, book trailers, and music videos for prominent labels such as Atlantic Records and Warner Music Group. Their impressive resume also includes work with Penguin, with whom they created book trailers for best-selling titles like Ransom Riggs' Tales of the Peculiar and Sally Green's Half Bad.
Their innovative visual effects skills were recognized with the 2012 MTV Music Video Award for Best Visual Effects for their work on Skrillex's First of the Year (Equinox),directed by Tony T. Datis.
In recent years, the Deka Brothers have expanded their portfolio to include commercial spots for major brands like Chevrolet, JBL, Cox, and StockX. Their film manifesto for Cranbrook Academy of Art was a nominee for Best of the Year in the Brand Vision category at the 2021 Vimeo Festival & Awards, and garnered two nominations at the 2021 Webby Awards.
