Biography

Julian T Pinder is a Canadian-American film director, producer, and writer, whose extensive body of work includes feature films, documentaries, Netflix Original series, television movies, and commercial campaigns released on major streamers and networks worldwide.

Throughout his career, his films have been showcased at numerous film festivals globally, earning awards and nominations for Best Picture and other accolades at prestigious festivals like the Santa Barbara Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, HotDocs, and San Francisco Independent Film Festival.

In 2017, Pinder created, directed, and executive produced the Netflix Original series Fire Chasers, which received an Emmy nomination and widespread critical acclaim, with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

His first film, LAND, premiered at HotDocs in 2010, garnering four and five-star reviews, while his second feature documentary, Trouble in the Peace, was featured at Cannes Film Festival and released nationwide in 2012.

Pinder's other notable works include Jesus Town USA, a documentary commissioned by Sky Atlantic and picked up by Showtime and Netflix, which received widespread critical acclaim, and Population Zero, a scripted feature film that won the Jury Prize for Best Feature Film at the San Francisco Independent Film Festival.

Early in his career, Pinder worked as a producer with Sarrazin Couture Entertainment, overseeing projects for Lifetime and CTV, and collaborated with acclaimed filmmakers Jennifer Baichwal, Nick de Pencier, and Helen Shaver.

Apart from feature films and television, Pinder has created commercial campaigns for prominent brands, including Ralph Lauren RRL, MTV Rock the Vote, and music videos for Grammy-nominated band The Milk Carton Kids.

In 2022, Pinder founded the Pioneertown Film Festival, a celebration of Western films shot in and around the legendary movie town built by Roy Rogers, in partnership with Paramount Studios and The Autry Museum of The American West.

Julian Pinder currently resides with his partner, artist Keely King, on their horse ranch outside of Pioneertown, California, where he is working on a slate of independent feature films to be shot in Europe in the upcoming years.
