Biography

Judith Ayers Vogelsang, a renowned television director, was nominated for a Directors Guild of America Award for her outstanding achievement in Television Directing for the program "GOINGGREEN - Every Home an Eco-Home", which aired on public TV stations nationwide, and was co-written and co-produced with Mary Proteau.

She also produced and directed the independent feature film "Heartless", which had worldwide distribution on the USA Network.

Judith's early career involved producing and directing non-fiction and fiction programs for PBS and CBS affiliates in the Midwest and on the east coast, where she won a CINE Golden Eagle Award for her hour-long documentary "Bucks County, USA".

She later worked as an Assistant Director for major studios in Los Angeles, before directing national, prime-time episodic series on "Simon & Simon" (CBS) and other entertainment shows airing on ABC and USA.

Her work on non-fiction specials aired on CBS, ABC, and in syndication, including "CBS American Memory Test" and "Silent Killer: Women & Heart Disease".

In addition to her television work, Judith produced and directed the feature documentary "Humble Beauty: Skid Row Artists", in partnership with Letitia Schwartz, which explores how art transformed talented homeless artists in Los Angeles. The film was distributed by American Public Television and airs nationwide on public television, with extensive online and academic distribution.

She also produced the short environmental documentary "SUV Taggers", which aired on The Documentary Channel, Free Speech TV, PBS stations, and Shorts TV.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Judith was educated in NYC public schools and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in English from Hobart & William Smith Colleges, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She went on to receive an M.A. from the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University and an M.A. in Film and TV from the University of Iowa.

Judith has served as a judge on the Emmys, DGA Awards, and the DGA Student Film Awards, and has been interviewed on radio, TV, and podcasts. She is a member of the Directors Guild of America, Television Academy of Arts & Sciences, and Cinewomen.

As President of her independent production company, Stone Harbor Films, Inc., Judith lives in Los Angeles with her husband, poet Arthur Vogelsang.
