Joshua William Dohy's life took a dramatic turn when he discovered his passion for parkour while skateboarding with friends. This newfound enthusiasm led him to develop a mindset that utilized obstacles as opportunities, ultimately becoming inseparable from his dreams. In 2012, he received his first sponsorship, and under the mentorship of Jason Paul of Team Farang, he continued to hone his skills.
However, Josh's journey took an unexpected turn when a talent agent suggested he pursue stunt-work and eventually acting. Recognizing this as an opportunity to kick-start his dream of becoming an actor, he seized the moment and began to study the craft by observing actors and crew members on set.
His breakthrough came when he landed a lead role in the short film One Night Only, which sparked a second creative epiphany. He devoted himself to acting, pouring his heart and soul into his craft.
Following this success, Josh returned to his hometown of Cold Lake, Alberta, where he reconnected with his family and spent time reading Ralph Waldo Emerson on the beach. During this period, he discovered the New Image College in Vancouver, renowned for its successful alumni.
A friend and New Image College graduate, Lucas Othmer, recommended that Josh apply, claiming it would be the best decision he'd ever make. Josh diligently prepared for his audition, traveling to Edmonton to work on his monologue with Owen Bishop, a fellow actor from One Night Only.
The successful audition earned him a spot in New Image's two-year acting conservatory, where he was taught by renowned actors such as Phillip Granger, John Emmet Tracy, Ben Bass, and Eugene Lipinski. The fast-paced program challenged the students to take charge of their own learning, allowing Josh to absorb technical knowledge and distill it into strong principles and lessons.
As the program progressed, Josh became increasingly fascinated by the exploration of these lessons, drawing connections between the micro and macro, and developing his own unique acting technique. He has since appeared in numerous films and theatre projects, continues to enjoy parkour and freerunning, and has launched his own clothing line, SELF.
In his free time, Josh enjoys finding pleasure in the mundane, recording his dreams, communicating with his subconscious, and building sand castles on the beach.
