Josefina Scaglione is a talented and captivating brunette soprano singer and actress, born in 1987 in Argentina. Her parents, both professionals in the medical field, have instilled in her a strong sense of discipline and dedication, traits that have served her well in her illustrious career. Interestingly, two of her grandparents were accomplished violinists, and their musical influence can be seen in Josefina's own passion for performance.
As a young girl, Josefina would often sing and dance around the house, and her love for performing only grew stronger as she matured. She received a prestigious scholarship to spend a summer studying singing and dancing at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, while still in high school. This experience not only honed her skills but also sparked a desire to pursue a career in the performing arts.
Following her high school graduation, Josefina moved to Buenos Aires, where she began working as a musical theater actress. She quickly made a name for herself, taking on leading roles in productions such as "Annie," "Fame," and "Cinderella." Her versatility and talent were showcased in a production of "Hairspray" at the Astral Theatre, where she portrayed the iconic character Amber Von Tussle.
Josefina's impressive performances did not go unnoticed, and she was soon invited to perform at numerous prestigious concert halls in her native Argentina. It was during this time that veteran stage director Arthur Laurents discovered her talent, watching a YouTube video of Scaglione singing Astor Piazzolla's "Libertango." Impressed by her voice, Laurents had her flown to New York City to audition for the starring role of Maria in a revival of the classic musical "West Side Story."
After making her debut as Maria in a National Theatre production in Washington, D.C., Josefina made her Broadway stage debut as Maria at the Palace Theatre in New York City in March 2009. Her powerful and moving performance earned her widespread critical acclaim, as well as a Tony Award nomination for Best Leading Actress in a Musical and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical.
