Juan Muñoz and I, José Sánchez, met in military service in 1985. We decided to leave the military and head to Madrid in search of adventure. Our first show, "60 personajes en busca de humor" (60 characters in search of humor),was an imitation of many famous people and was very successful. We were soon given the opportunity to perform at "Caribiana", one of the most important nightclubs in Madrid, and later at "Windsor" hall on Gran Vía street, where we acted for two years.
We started our radio career with several programs, including "Viva la gente divertida" on Antena 3 channel, "Luis del Olmo" and "Javier Sardà", which helped us reach a large audience. We made our TV debut with a slot in the program "Pero ¿esto que es?" (1989) on TVE channel. We then got our own TV program on Tele 5 and later returned to TVE with a collaboration in Raffaella Carrà's program "Hola Raffaella".
In 1990, we made our film debut with the movie "Ni se te ocurra..." (1991),which received a warm reception from the audience. We then focused on TV, creating special programs such as "Colón Pirata" and "No Smoking", which was nominated for the "TP de Oro" award as the Best Special Program of 1993.
Our summer special "Abierto por vacaciones" was a huge success, reaching #1 in audience ratings. We were then asked to host the 1993 New Year's Eve TV special, which we titled "Este año, Cruz y Raya ¡Seguro!". After that, we had our own program on TVE and have continued to create successful shows, including "Perdiendo el juicio", "Vaya Tele", and "Aquí hemos venido a lo que hemos venido".
We also created a 30-minute series filled with sketches, imitations, and music events, which reached #1 in audience ratings on Friday nights. We returned with a second season the following year and then took a break from TV. We returned to TVE with the series "Este no es el programa de los viernes" (1998),which was our most successful appearance to date.
Our comic phrases started to be heard in people's voices, and we continued to create successful shows, including "Estamos en directo" (1999) and "Cruz y raya.com" (2000). We also made several animation film dubbings and Juan made his directorial debut with the film "¡Ja me maaten...!" (2000).
