Biography

Jonathan Zarantonello is a multifaceted Italian creative individual, possessing a triple threat skillset comprising writing, producing, and filmmaking expertise.

Born in the charming city of Vicenza, Italy, Jonathan embarked on his cinematic journey by graduating from the prestigious Civica Scuola di Cinema in Milan, subsequently furthering his education at the renowned USC School of Cinematic Arts and the Columbia University School of the Arts.

In a collaborative effort with esteemed TV network RAI, Jonathan brought his novel Alice dalle 4 alle 5 to life as the thriller The Butterfly Room, a production that he both directed and produced. This cinematic masterpiece, featuring a talented cast including Barbara Steele, Heather Langenkamp, and Ray Wise, was shot on location in Los Angeles and premiered at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, subsequently receiving a theatrical release in various countries.

In addition to his work on The Butterfly Room, Jonathan co-produced the visually striking and innovative film Spoof, a fusion of 3D, animation, and live action, in partnership with Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Lorenzo Foschi.

Jonathan's literary endeavors have also been successfully adapted into film. His novel Basta Che Respirano, published by Coniglio Editore in 2005, was reimagined as the movie UncuT, which Jonathan also wrote and directed. UncuT made its debut at the prestigious Tribeca and Locarno Film Festivals, ultimately receiving an international theatrical release.

Furthermore, Jonathan has ventured into television, creating the hour-long show Find Me a Man for Fox Life channel, which premiered at the esteemed Cannes Mipcom.

Before pursuing a career in the film industry, Jonathan's early creative endeavors included shooting the horror comedy Medley, which garnered a Silver Ribbon nomination from the Italian Syndicate of Film Journalists for best first-time director. Medley received a theatrical release and was subsequently acquired by Troma Inc. in New York for distribution.
