Biography

Jonathan Haze is an American actor, producer, and horror movie icon. He is best known for his work in Roger Corman films, particularly his role as Seymour in the cult classic, The Little Shop of Horrors (1960). With a career spanning over 20 films across six decades, Haze has written the screenplay for the science fiction comedy, Invasion of the Star Creatures (1962).

Born in Pittsburgh into a show business family, Haze's cousin was the legendary jazz drummer and bandleader, Buddy Rich. Haze began his career behind the scenes, working stage production for his cousin Buddy and later becoming the stage manager for Josephine Baker.

Haze moved to Los Angeles and began working in film production, eventually becoming an exclusive player for low-budget producer and director, Roger Corman. He made his on-screen debut in Corman's Monster from the Ocean Floor (1954) and went on to play a variety of roles, including a pickpocket, an ex-convict, and a man contaminated by radioactive fallout.

As his on-screen versatility became apparent, Haze received larger roles and better billing in Corman's cheapjack productions, including Gunslinger (1956),It Conquered the World (1956),Naked Paradise (1957),Carnival Rock (1957),Not of This Earth (1957),and Bayou (1957).

Haze landed his first starring role in the Warner Bros. drama, Stakeout on Dope Street (1958),and later played the iconic role of Seymour Krelboyne in The Little Shop of Horrors (1960). The film catapulted Haze into cult stardom and cemented his status as a horror movie icon.

In addition to his acting career, Haze began to work behind the scenes, writing the script for Invasion of the Star Creatures (1962) and working in production for various films. He eventually transitioned to producing commercials, serving as the CEO of a commercial production company and creating successful national and international campaigns for major brands.

In 1999, Haze made a cameo appearance in Corman's "The Phantom Eye" (1999),bringing his career full circle.
