Jonathan D. Krane, a pioneer in the film industry, has made a lasting impact through his dedication to identifying and implementing fundamental principles that have guided his success. His academic background, comprising a degree from St. John's College and a law degree from Yale University School of Law, laid the foundation for his work in the entertainment industry.
Krane's career began in 1980, when he partnered with director Blake Edwards to co-found Blake Edwards Entertainment. As an executive producer on all of Edwards' films, Krane gained valuable experience and insight into the film business. This led to the establishment of his own studio, Management Company Entertainment Group (MCEG),which was the first talent management/studio/production company. MCEG was a groundbreaking venture that achieved remarkable success, becoming the highest-performing entertainment stock of 1988.
At MCEG, Krane focused on nurturing talent, launching the careers of Kim Basinger, Bruce Willis, and Bridget Fonda. He also produced numerous successful films, including the comedy Look Who's Talking, which remains one of the most profitable films ever made. With a keen eye for talent and a knack for producing low-budget films with high production values, Krane's success was undeniable.
Throughout his career, Krane has received numerous awards and accolades, including the Hollywood Visionary Award, a nomination for the Independent Spirit Awards, and The Golden Palm Award. He has also hosted seminars and lectures across the country, sharing his expertise with aspiring filmmakers.
In addition to his work in the film industry, Krane has written a comprehensive textbook on the art and science of moviemaking, titled "A Revolutionary Approach to the Art and Science of Moviemaking." This book outlines a system for producing films efficiently and profitably, and has become the basis for the curriculum at the Krane Academy, a film institute he founded in 2005.
Krane's most recent venture, The Edge, aims to produce, finance, and distribute 15 films a year. With his extensive experience and expertise, Krane is poised to continue making a significant impact in the film industry, inspiring a new generation of filmmakers and leaving a lasting legacy.
