Jonathan was born on January 14, 1977, in Lambeth, London, England. He developed a passion for acting during his school days, largely due to the encouragement of his enthusiastic drama teacher, Michael Day. This inspiration led to the addition of Theatre Studies to the school's A level curriculum, and Day subsequently recommended Jonathan for the National Youth Theatre's summer school, where he was one of the youngest pupils to attend.
Before completing his education, Jonathan embarked on a tour of Norway, where he took on the title role in a production of 'Macbeth' and portrayed Mercutio in 'Romeo and Juliet.' He then enrolled at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, graduating to pursue a diverse range of stage roles.
Some of his notable performances include appearances in 'Peter Pan' at the National Theatre, 'The Dumb Waiter' and 'The Turn of the Screw' at Bristol Old Vic, 'She Stoops to Conquer' on a national tour, 'Love for Love,' 'Queen Anne,' and 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' for the RSC, 'Amadeus' at Wilton's Theatre in London, and 'Hamlet' and 'Romeo and Juliet' at the Rose, Bankside.
In 2011, Jonathan joined Filter Theatre, becoming an artistic associate and appearing in their contemporary productions of 'Twelfth Night' and 'A Midsummer Night's Dream.' His roles in these productions showcased his versatility, with performances as Orsino and Malvolio in 'Twelfth Night' and a nerdy asthmatic Oberon in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream.'
In 2016, Jonathan received the Clarence Derwent prize for best supporting actor for his performance in the Donmar Warehouse's revival of 'My Night with Reg.' Although he is not a prolific screen actor, he is in high demand for voice-overs and has contributed to numerous episodes of 'Thomas the Tank Engine.'
