Jon Sorensen, a Scottish native, was born and raised in rural Scotland, where he was shaped by his humble beginnings. His parents played a significant role in his upbringing, and his grandmother's influence was particularly profound. The cinema also had a lasting impact on his life.
Sorensen's entry into the film industry was facilitated by renowned Directors of Photography such as Peter Suschitzky, Alex Thomson, Alan Hume, and Brian Johnson, who offered him valuable guidance. His first experience in the industry was a unique one, as he worked on the film Alien (1979) and even slept in Peter Cushing's former studio dressing room.
During this time, Sorensen took advantage of the wisdom shared by industry luminaries like Ray Harryhausen, Lindsay Anderson, and Sir Alec Guinness. He went on to work on a dozen mainstream features in visual effects and camera capacities before transitioning to DP work in television drama and commercials.
In addition to his work as a director of photography, Sorensen also directed numerous commercials, primarily in Europe, and acted as visual effects director/DP on many projects. He also wrote his own screenplays, with one of his scripts, a British television drama called "A Return to Love," being produced, written, and directed by him.
Sorensen is a multi-talented individual who operates his own camera, music edits, and sound designs. He designed and directed the 35 visual effects shots for his project, showcasing his versatility and skill.
In 1999, Sorensen made history by producing, writing, and directing the independent science-fiction feature film Alien Blood, which was subsequently given distribution in the United States. This achievement is all the more remarkable considering that Sorensen is the only person alive in the United Kingdom who has accomplished this feat in the past ten years.
Today, Sorensen resides in the breathtaking English Lake District with his wife, where he continues to draw inspiration from his native landscape and keep a watchful eye on Hollywood.
