Jon Rekdal, a Norwegian native born in 1965, is the son of a notable father, Idelfonso Ramos, a Cuban documentarian and co-founder of the Cuban film institute, ICAIC, and a mother, Olaug Rekdal, a published poet. This unique upbringing had a profound impact on Jon's creative pursuits.
Jon's filmmaking journey began in 1991 with the creation of his first short film, which garnered recognition at the Stockholm International Film Festival for its 1-kilometer film. As he eagerly awaited the digital revolution, Jon's work continued to evolve with the introduction of DV cameras in 1999. He worked extensively in cinema verite, proposing that "reality exceeds imagination."
Since 2004, Jon has focused on fiction projects, exploring the idea that "imagination foreshadows reality." His dedication to his craft has led to numerous notable works.
In 2010, Jon's film "Werewolf" received a significant boost when Werner Herzog, a renowned filmmaker, saw a trailer for the movie and declared, "This is cinema!" to a packed auditorium. "Werewolf" holds the distinction of being the first stereoscopic 3D film produced in Sweden.
