Biography

Johnny Harris is a talented and accomplished actor, having received multiple BAFTA nominations for his outstanding performances in various TV shows and films over the past two decades. He is perhaps most renowned for his portrayal of Mick in the BAFTA-winning and cult television series 'This Is England '86', which earned him a BAFTA and Royal Television Society Award nomination. The final episode of the series was recently named 'The Greatest TV Episode of All Time' by The Independent Newspaper.

In addition to his work on 'This Is England', Harris has also starred in subsequent series 'This is England '88' and 'This is England '90'. His impressive resume also includes starring roles in other notable projects, such as the 8-part series 'A Gentleman in Moscow' with Ewan McGregor, based on the internationally best-selling novel of the same name.

Recent roles have showcased Harris's versatility as an actor, including his portrayal of imprisoned killer Charles Stone in the psychological thriller series 'Without Sin' (ITV) alongside Vicky McClure, and his depiction of Novichok poison victim Charlie Rowley in 'The Salisbury Poisonings' (BBC). In 2023, he played the iconic role of Magwitch in the BBC/FOX/Disney TV adaptation of Great Expectations, alongside Olivia Colman, a project executive-produced by Tom Hardy and Sir Ridley Scott.

Harris's career in film began in 2006 with his critically acclaimed performance in the award-winning British film 'London to Brighton', which was voted into Time Out Magazine's '100 Greatest British Films of All Time'. The film's director, Shane Meadows, praised Harris's performance as "an incredibly bold and massively powerful performance, the best I've seen on celluloid for a long time".

Throughout his career, Harris has appeared in numerous other notable film and TV projects, including the BBC TV series adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol', in which he played Scrooge's abusive father, Franklin Scrooge; the epic BBC drama series 'Troy: Fall of A City', in which he played the powerful Greek King Agamemnon; BBC crime drama series 'From Darkness'; Sky's 'Fortitude'; and feature films 'Snow White and the Huntsman', Ridley Scott's 'Welcome to the Punch', and 'Monsters: Dark Continent'.

Harris has also made significant contributions to television, starring in shows such as 'Medici' (Netflix) and Jack Thorne's BAFTA-winning apocalyptic BBC series 'The Fades'.

In addition to his acting work, Harris has also ventured into screenwriting, making his debut with the highly acclaimed feature film 'Jawbone', which he also starred in and co-produced. He received a BAFTA Film Award nomination for Outstanding Debut, two BIFA Film Award nominations for his performance in the leading role, and a Writers Guild Award nomination for his screenplay.

Furthermore, Harris has directed two music videos for Paul Weller, including 'Gravity' in 2018 and 'I Woke Up' in 2024, as part of an initiative with homeless charity St Mungo's.
