Biography

John Tench was born in Madison, Wisconsin, USA, and spent his childhood in Canada, where he developed a passion for film and theatre. He began his career on stage in Toronto, working under the guidance of renowned director Ken Gass at the legendary Factory Theatre Lab.

Tench's early success led him to study and work in some of the world's most prestigious cities, including New York City, London, Paris, and throughout Continental Europe. He eventually returned to Toronto, where he co-founded the influential Theatre Company Theatre Kathartic, performing and touring internationally in productions of works by acclaimed playwrights such as Sam Shepard, Dario Fo, and Bertolt Brecht.

His talent and versatility soon took him to Vancouver, British Columbia, and then to Hollywood and Los Angeles, where he continued to work in film and television. Tench has had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed directors such as Ang Lee, Antoine Fuqua, Zac Snyder, Arthur Hiller, Roger Christian, and Chris Haddock, and has appeared in numerous award-winning shows, including American Gods, Schitt's Creek, and Murdoch Mysteries.

In addition to his on-screen work, Tench has also made a name for himself in the world of motion capture and voice acting, lending his talents to the award-winning video games WatchDogs, WatchDogs Bad Blood, and WatchDogs2 as the beloved character T-Bone Grady. He has also worked on FarCry 5 and Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

As a triple threat, Tench has worked extensively in theatre, directing, writing, and producing numerous productions for companies across North America and Europe. He has also ventured behind the camera, producing, writing, and directing several short films.

A master of accents and dialects, Tench has voiced a wide range of cartoons and foreign language films. He is a published poet and has written several screenplays. Furthermore, he is a professor of film and acting, currently teaching in the Diploma Program at the renowned Toronto Film School and Yorkville University.

Tench has also held the position of Professor in Residence at the Beijing Film Academy and the Shanghai Theatre Academy in China. In his free time, he enjoys painting, music, and spending time with his family and on his farm. A talented musician, he sings and plays the guitar, banjo, piano, harmonica, tuba, and other instruments.

An avid outdoorsman, Tench loves fishing, canoeing, and exploring the great outdoors. He divides his time and work between Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and Europe, constantly seeking new creative challenges and opportunities.
