John Radel is a highly acclaimed and award-winning cinematographer and producer who has won over 35 prestigious film industry awards for his visually stunning and captivating films.
Inspired by European and Asian cinema, John traveled to Budapest to learn from renowned master cinematographers Vilmos Zsigmond ASC HSC and Laszlo Kovacs ASC HSC, honing his skills and gaining valuable experience.
He later relocated to Asia, where he spent over 20 years working on various series and feature films in Indonesia, Singapore, Korea, China, Philippines, Thailand, and Hong Kong.
John's extensive career has taken him to various parts of the world, including Asia, the USA, and Australia, where he has worked on numerous international projects. Some of his notable credits include Director of Photography on the US feature film "After The Dark" directed by John Huddles, Cinematographer and Producer on the Asian action film "Buffalo Boys", and Producer and Cinematographer on the horror feature "Motel Melati" and its spin-off series "Losmen Melati".
He also co-directed and co-produced the motion picture "Dance Of The Dragon" starring Jason Scott Lee, which won 10 awards at the West Hollywood International Film Festival, as well as the feature-length docu/drama "Unfolding Florence" for acclaimed director Gillian Armstrong, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and the Southern Star television drama series "The Surgeon".
John has also worked on other notable projects, including the feature-length docu/drama "In Our Name" for director Chris Tuckfield, which received a gold award at the ACS awards, and the crime drama "Operandi Grahana", currently screening on Netflix.
In addition, John was the Producer and Cinematographer on the American sci-fi action feature film "Skyline - Warpath" starring Iko Uwais and Scott Adkins, and has worked on numerous other projects, including the feature film "Blackhat" starring Chris Hemsworth, the Ridley Scott-produced sci-fi film "Equals" starring Kristen Stewart, the Japanese action film "Joker Game" starring Kazuya Kamenashi, the sci-fi/action film "Beyond Skyline" starring Frank Grillo and Iko Uwas, HBO Asia's action series "Halfworlds" seasons one and two, the Australian feature drama "Journey", the action thriller "Headshot" directed by the Mo Brothers starring Iko Uwas, co-producing the Netflix action film "The Night Comes For Us" starring Joe Taslim and Iko Uwas, the HBO action drama series "Grisse", and the Bron Studios, Dev Patel-directed action feature film "Monkey Man".
At the 2009 Australian Cinematography Society awards night, John was presented with his ACS accreditation for his successful career to date.
