John McLean's educational journey began at St. Anthony's High School Seminary in San Antonio, Texas, a Catholic boarding school with a mission to train young men for the priesthood. However, this path did not ultimately define his future, as he instead pursued a lifetime of creativity and debauchery.
McLean's academic pursuits continued at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a degree in literature and languages. This foundation in the arts would later serve as a springboard for his future endeavors.
Following his academic achievements, McLean relocated to Los Angeles, where he worked in development and casting for Roger Corman's Concorde Pictures. He also served as the Assistant Editor on the 1989 film "Curfew," directed by Gary Winik.
Eventually, McLean returned to his hometown of Austin, Texas, where he currently resides. He has two children, Oona and Francis, with his former wife, Amy Evers.
Before devoting himself to acting, writing, and directing, McLean spent four years as an Associate Producer at Origin, a renowned computer game company, working on the "Wing Commander" games.
His foray into filmmaking began with the low-budget mockumentary "The Perfect Man Contest" in 2003, followed by the unconventional musical "Z: A Zombie Musical" in 2007, which features 14 original songs.
Upcoming projects include an untitled Women In Prison Musical, the literary satire "Ex Libris," and an original movie musical set in Classical Greece.
