John James Anderson is a renowned actor, best recognized for his decade-long portrayal of Jeff Colby in the iconic 1980s prime-time TV soaps, Dynasty (1981) and The Colbys (1985). Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he is the son of renowned radio broadcaster Herb Oscar Anderson and the brother of actor Herb Anderson.
Anderson's early career was marked by small roles in notable TV series, including Fantasy Island (1977) and The Love Boat (1976),before he landed the coveted role of Jeff Colby in Dynasty (1981) and its spin-off, The Colbys (1985). He made his debut in the first episode, "Oil" (1981),and remained a part of the show until the final episode, "Catch 22" (1989),with a brief return for the film Dynasty: The Reunion.
After a nearly 15-year hiatus from acting, Anderson made sporadic appearances in TV movies and the action thriller Icebreaker (2000),alongside Sean Astin and Bruce Campbell.
Anderson returned to acting in the early 2000s, starring in the long-running hit series As the World Turns (1956) and the equally successful All My Children (1970). He also appeared in the drama Lightning: Fire from the Sky (2001),alongside Jesse Eisenberg and John Schneider.
