John Giordano is a multifaceted filmmaker, hailing from the intersection of British and Italian cultures, with his professional base spanning across Rome and London. His academic journey began with a diploma in Documentary Film and Television, followed by a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Film and Video from the Newport Film School in Wales, now rebranded as the University of South Wales.
Giordano's first foray into filmmaking was the short film AMIAS (2013),which garnered critical acclaim and recognition at various international film festivals, and is currently available on the VOD platform Dekkoo. This achievement earned him a bursary to pursue his Master's in Filmmaking at the prestigious London Film School.
During his time at the London Film School, Giordano honed his skills in diverse cinematic areas, culminating in the creation of his first solo project, Falling as We Grow (2015). Written, directed, and produced by him, this film was shot in a single day, despite the ambitious production design requirements. Later that year, he collaborated as the creative producer on WALLS (2015),a documentary by Julia Soutchinskaia that explored the demolition of the Gascoigne Estate in London, notorious for being the worst address in the United Kingdom. Employing an Instagram-style format, the film offered a unique perspective to viewers, earning nominations at several international documentary film festivals, including the Napoli International Film Festival.
Giordano's cinematography skills were showcased in Zhannat Alshanova's White Orchid Hotel (2016),for which he received a nomination for Best Cinematography at the 2016 Camerimage Film Festival. He also worked on various other aspects of filmmaking, having been selected by his classmates to collaborate on their graduation projects, which allowed him to work on productions in the United States, Lebanon, and the UK.
Upon graduating from the London Film School, Giordano produced Three Centimetres (2018),a film by Lara Zeidan that won the 32nd Teddy Award for Best Short Film at the Berlinale 2018. This film has been selected for over 100 festivals worldwide, earning numerous accolades, including the 2018 Iris Prize and the 2019 London Critics Circle Award for Best British/Irish Short Film.
In late 2018, Giordano joined filmmaker Marzia Rumi as the cameraman and associate producer on her debut feature documentary, ISLAM DE CUBA (2019),which was shot in Cuba. More recently, he has collaborated with BVLGARI, serving as the scriptwriter for their first-ever fashion film, BVLGARI Cinemagia, presented at the Capri Film Festival, and as the copywriter for their advertising campaign, Summer Chapter.
Currently, Giordano is working as the producer and scenic artist for Lara Zeidan's Iris Prize-funded short film, A Beautiful Form To See.
