John Chester is a renowned filmmaker and television director with a career spanning over two and a half decades.
His most recent short films for OWN's Super Soul Sunday, including Saving Emma, Worry for Maggie, and The Orphan, have garnered impressive accolades, earning five Emmy Awards for outstanding directing, writing, and cinematography.
Chester's work first gained widespread recognition with his primetime television docu-series, Random 1, which he directed and starred in on A&E in 2006. This series inspired his feature documentary, Lost in Woonsocket, which premiered at SXSW in 2007.
He also directed the documentary Rock Prophecies, which tells the story of legendary rock photographer Robert Knight, and won three audience awards for best documentary feature. The film was nationally distributed on PBS in 2010.
Chester's latest project, The Biggest Little Farm, is a feature-length film that chronicles the epic eight-year journey of Apricot Lane Farms, the regenerative farm he and his wife Molly founded in 2011.
The film premiered at the 2018 Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, and Sundance Film Festival, and is set to release in theaters nationwide in May 2019.
In addition, Chester has signed a three-year book deal with Feiwel & Friends/Macmillan to create a spin-off children's book series featuring characters from the film. The first installment, Saving Emma the Pig, is scheduled for release in Spring 2019.
