John Blizek, a renowned television editor, director, and producer, was born and raised in a suburb of Chicago. He embarked on his academic journey by pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts, with a focus on Radio/Television, at Indiana University, where he graduated in 1975. During his time at IU, Blizek honed his skills by working as a lighting director at the PBS affiliate WTIU.
After his undergraduate studies, Blizek was awarded a prestigious Warner Brothers Summer Observation Program Scholarship, which granted him the opportunity to intern at The Burbank Studios. He then took his talents to the University of Southern California, where he earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in 1980. This achievement was marked by his receipt of the Fuji Film award for cinematography.
Throughout his illustrious career, Blizek has primarily worked as a television series editor, while also producing and directing a diverse array of projects. As a director, he is a member of the Directors Guild of America. His exceptional work has earned him two nominations for Cable Ace Awards for editing a comedy series or special, as well as a spot on the team that received the first Grammy nomination for "Video of the Year."
