Biography

John Barron was born on a festive evening, December 24th, 1920, marking the beginning of a remarkable life. His journey in the world of performing arts received a boost when a benevolent godfather sponsored his training fees at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 1938.

As the Second World War unfolded, John served his country with pride, joining the Navy and dedicating himself to the noble cause. After demobilization, he returned to his first love, acting, and soon found himself immersed in the world of repertory productions.

As his career progressed, John's passion for the stage led him to explore the realm of theatre direction. He had the privilege of working alongside the talented Leonard Rossiter in numerous productions throughout the 1950s.

John's foray into television brought him widespread recognition, and his first regular TV role was in the esteemed medical drama "Emergency-Ward 10" in 1957. This marked the beginning of a long and illustrious career in television, with numerous sitcoms soon following.

Sadly, John has experienced personal loss, having lost two beloved wives. His first wife, Joan Peart, who played the role of Mrs. E. Blythe-Erpingham in Series Three, Episode Five, passed away in 1989 after 40 years of marriage. His second wife, the accomplished actress Helen Christie, left this world in 1995.

Today, John continues to focus on his passion for theatre, dividing his time between performances and his cozy cottage in the picturesque county of Sussex. In his free time, he indulges in his love of fine wines, a hobby that brings him great joy.
