In addition to his extensive work with Kubrick, Turkel has also had the opportunity to collaborate with the prolific director Bert I. Gordon, appearing in three of his notable films. Born in Brooklyn on July 15, 1927, Turkel's early life was shaped by his parents, Benjamin Turkel, a skilled tailor, and Gazella (née Goldfisher),a devoted homemaker and occasional opera singer. His early years were marked by a sense of responsibility, as he joined the United States Army at the tender age of seventeen. During World War II, Turkel served in the European Theater of Operations, where he honed his skills and gained valuable life experience.
