Joseph Turkel, a renowned American character actor, has left an indelible mark on the film industry, particularly in the works of the esteemed director Stanley Kubrick. Born in Brooklyn on July 15, 1927, Turkel's early life was shaped by his parents, Benjamin Turkel, a skilled tailor, and Gazella (née Goldfisher),a devoted homemaker and occasional opera singer. His parents, who were Polish-Jewish immigrants, instilled in him a strong sense of cultural heritage.
Turkel's family was completed by his two younger brothers, Harold and David. His early years were marked by a sense of responsibility, as he joined the United States Army at the tender age of seventeen.
