Jo Newman was born and raised in Western Massachusetts, and at the tender age of seventeen, she made the bold decision to leave her hometown behind and relocate to New York City, driven by an unrelenting passion to forge a successful acting career.
As a graduate of New York University's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts, Jo immersed herself in the world-renowned Meisner technique, honing her craft under the guidance of Sanford Meisner's primary studio. She further refined her skills by attending the esteemed Stonestreet School of Film and Television.
Since then, Jo has made a name for herself in the television industry, boasting an impressive résumé that includes appearances in popular shows such as Law and Order: SVU, Gossip Girl, Guiding Light, and The Sopranos.
Her big-screen debut came in the form of the romantic drama Love and Other Drugs, alongside A-listers Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. Jo's latest project, the highly anticipated film Lay The Favorite, boasts an all-star cast, including Bruce Willis and Catherine Zeta Jones, and is set to captivate audiences worldwide.
In addition to her acting pursuits, Jo has also ventured into the world of comedy, writing and producing a pilot episode for a comedy series entitled (Greetings From) Sunny Beaches, which has caught the attention of industry insiders.
As a versatile actress, Jo is particularly drawn to character-driven roles, dark and light comedy, and the art of making her co-stars laugh. To further hone her craft, she regularly attends improv classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in both New York and Los Angeles, as well as scene study sessions with renowned instructor Joyce Piven.
When she's not on set, Jo can often be found practicing yoga, having earned her certification as an instructor. Her love of yoga has led her to spend much of her free time inverted, a testament to her dedication to her physical and mental well-being.
