Jeffry Ryan Chaffin, a talented filmmaker, was born on November 14, 1975, in Irving, Texas, just west of Dallas. His passion for filmmaking began at a young age, as he started his film production company, Backyard Films Presents, at just 13 years old.
Growing up, Jeffry was fascinated by various genres, including westerns, kung-fu, superheroes, and adventure films like The Goonies. He would often recreate his favorite movies on video with his neighborhood friends, laying the foundation for his future career.
After graduating from Columbia College Chicago in 1998, Jeffry moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams. He took on various jobs to gain experience, including delivering scripts, running errands for post-production houses, and assisting with editing. He also worked as a grip on movie sets and took on sides from casting offices at Showfax, where he met filmmaker Scott Feinblatt.
Jeffry's collaboration with Feinblatt resulted in the found footage film "Outtake Reel," which tells the story of a director's descent into madness. For this project, Feinblatt took on an acting role, while Jeffry played the role of a mega fan. The film also featured supporting roles from Lloyd Kaufman and Tiffany Shepis.
Before "Outtake Reel," Jeffry had already made his mark in the film industry. He created the micro-budget feature "Ungirlfriendable," which tells the story of a sad sack comic strip creator who gains the ability to see women's thoughts after an accident. The film was shot entirely in front of a green screen, allowing for illustrated backgrounds to be added later for a 2D comic strip look.
Jeffry's trilogy of black and white short films, which revolve around a domesticated Sasquatch and his bumbling friends, have garnered several awards from film festivals. These films blend horror, science fiction, parody, 80s nostalgia, and comedy, showcasing Jeffry's unique storytelling style.
Jeffry's forthcoming sci-fi comedy, "Soul Jumpers," is set to start production in early 2023, featuring a cast of both familiar and new faces. The film is sure to take audiences on an exciting ride, blending Jeffry's signature sensibilities and storytelling style.
