Biography

Jean's Early Life and Inspiration

Born and raised on a farm in a small Kansas town, Jean's upbringing was marked by a sense of isolation, which she compensated for by immersing herself in a world of make-believe. This fascination with fantasy was further fueled by her involvement in high school and college productions at Kansas State University, where she honed her acting skills and developed a passion for the craft.

A Natural Progression to Professional Acting

Under the guidance of the Director of Theatre at KSU, Joel Climenhaga, Jean was encouraged to pursue a career in professional acting. This mentorship not only inspired her to chase her dreams but also instilled in her a sense of confidence and determination to succeed.

A Distinguished Career in Acting

For over three decades, Jean has worked as a SAG actor, accumulating over 100 credits in a wide range of hit shows, including THE KOMINSKY METHOD, MOM, HAWAII 5-O, and many others. Throughout her career, she has balanced her professional pursuits with her personal life, raising her son as a single mother and running her own business.

Philanthropic Efforts and Personal Life

In addition to her acting career, Jean is a dedicated philanthropist, particularly in her support of the World Peace Organization, SGI-USA. She is also the owner of DON'T SHOOT YOURSELF, a self-tape audition company where she coaches and tapes actors.

Awards and Recognition

In September 2019, Jean was honored with a lifetime achievement award at the NEW VISION INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, a recognition she humbly dedicates to all the hardworking actors who persevere in the face of adversity.

Personal Life and Family

Jean is proud of her son, Martin Starr, a talented artist and actor in his own right. She is grateful for the opportunity to have raised him as a single mother and is proud of the kind, giving, and humorous person he has become. Jean is also committed to her own physical well-being, prioritizing daily exercise and feeling fortunate to have a long and enduring career as an actress.
