Biography

Jason Isaacs was born in the vibrant city of Liverpool, a place that has left an indelible mark on his artistic journey. Despite his initial intention to study law at Bristol University, he found himself irresistibly drawn to the world of theatre. Under the guidance of the esteemed institution, he honed his skills by directing, producing, and acting in numerous productions, showcasing his multifaceted talent at the National Student Theatre Festival and the illustrious Edinburgh Festival.

Upon graduating in 1985, Jason embarked on further studies at the prestigious Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, where he began his professional career in 1988. His journey as a thespian has been marked by a plethora of iconic roles, cementing his status as a versatile and accomplished actor.

Notable among his numerous credits are his portrayals of Lucius Malfoy in the beloved Harry Potter film series, Mr. Darling/Captain Hook in the enchanting Peter Pan (2003),and a range of soldiers, including Col. William Tavington in Roland Emmerich's The Patriot (2000),Captain Steele in Ridley Scott's Blackhawk Down, Major Briggs in Paul Greengrass's Green Zone, Captain Waggoner in Fury, Captain Lorca in Star Trek: Discovery, Field Marshall Zhukov in Armando Iannucci's The Death of Stalin, and Rear-Admiral Godfrey in John Madden's Operation Mincemeat.

Jason's impressive repertoire also includes his captivating performances as Hap in the cult series The OA, Maurice in the critically acclaimed WW2 film Good (2008),and Jay in the multi-award winning MASS. Throughout his illustrious career, he has made significant contributions to both British and American television, earning numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe, International Emmy, BAFTA, Critics Choice, Peabody, Satellite, and many other prestigious awards.

In addition to his extensive work in film and television, Jason has also made a lasting impact on the world of stage theatre. He has had the privilege of performing in the original productions of Angels in America parts 1 and 2 for the Royal National Theatre, as well as at the Royal Court, Almeida, and West End Theatres, showcasing his remarkable range and versatility.

In his personal life, Jason is married to documentary filmmaker Emma Hewitt, whom he met at drama school, and they have two beautiful children together.
