Jason Flom is a renowned music industry executive, serving as the CEO of Lava Records and Lava Music Publishing. Prior to his current roles, he held positions as Chairman and CEO at Atlantic Records, Virgin Records, and Capitol Music Group.
Flom began his career at Atlantic Records at the age of 18 as a Trainee Field Merchandiser. He rose through the ranks, becoming Chairman and CEO in 2003. During his tenure, he discovered and developed acts such as Kid Rock, Matchbox 20, The Corrs, Hayley Williams, Skid Row, Tori Amos, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Jewel, and Sugar Ray.
Flom became Chairman and CEO of Virgin Records in 2006, where he signed Katy Perry. He then moved to Capitol Music Group in 2008, overseeing the careers of artists like Coldplay, Lenny Kravitz, 30 Seconds to Mars, Corinne Bailey Rae, KT Tunstall, and Joss Stone.
In 1995, Flom co-founded Lava Records, which became one of the most successful startups in music business history. He later reclaimed the label in 2009, forming a partnership with Republic Records and signing Lorde and Jessie J. In 2015, Flom created Lava Music Publishing, partnering with Kobalt Music Publishing to provide worldwide publishing services.
As a leading philanthropist, Flom has championed various political and social causes. He is a founding board member of the Innocence Project and has worked tirelessly to secure clemencies for nonviolent drug offenders. Flom has also supported medical research organizations, including The T.J. Martell Foundation and City of Hope.
Throughout his career, Flom has received numerous awards and accolades, including the "Torch of Liberty" from the American Civil Liberties Union, the "Music Visionary of the Year" award from the UJA Federation, and the "Spirit of Life" award from Russell Simmons' Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation.
