Jane Levy was born in California, USA, and spent her formative years in San Anselmo, California, where she attended Sir Francis Drake High School. During her time at school, she was an active member of the hip hop dancing team and served as captain of the soccer team. In addition to her extracurricular activities, Levy also had a passion for the performing arts, appearing in Community Theater productions of Annie and The Wizard of Oz. She further honed her acting skills by attending Goucher College for a semester before transferring to the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City.
Levy's family was extremely supportive of her decision to pursue a career in acting. After two years of living in New York City, she made the decision to return to Los Angeles. Just a few weeks after her return, she landed a five-episode role on the Showtime series Shameless, playing the character of Mandy Milkovich. This was quickly followed by her being cast in the lead role of the sitcom Suburgatory, alongside Jeremy Sisto and Cheryl Hines. Suburgatory went on to run for three seasons before being canceled by ABC in 2014.
Levy's breakthrough year was 2011, during which she was named one of the breakout stars of the year by both TV Guide and TheInsider.com. She was also included on AOL's list of the top eleven funniest women and was named one of the 30 under 30 by Forbes, a list that recognized the brightest stars of the future. In 2012, she appeared in two films, Fun Size and Nobody Walks. The former, which was released before Halloween, co-starred Victoria Justice and comedian Chelsea Handler. Levy was disappointed to miss out on meeting co-star Johnny Knoxville, who was only on set for one week during filming.
In 2013, Levy took on the lead role in the remake of the horror classic Evil Dead, playing the character of Mia, a drug-dependent young woman. The following year, she starred in two independent films, About Alex and Bang Bang Baby. In 2015, she co-starred opposite Rene Russo in Frank and Cindy, and in 2016, she starred in the horror film Don't Breathe, directed by Fede Alvarez. That same year, she co-starred with Lucas Till in Monster Trucks, Paramount Animation's first live-action/CGI film.
In 2017, Levy appeared in the film I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore, directed by Macon Blair, and will star in the zombie comedy Office Uprising. She also played the female lead in the romantic drama The Pretenders, directed by James Franco. Additionally, she made a guest appearance in the Showtime series Twin Peaks.
