Jane Elliott is a renowned American diversity educator, whose groundbreaking work has had a profound impact on the way people perceive and interact with one another. As a dedicated schoolteacher, she rose to prominence for her innovative "Blue eyes/Brown eyes" exercise, which she first conducted with her third-grade class on April 5, 1968, just one day after the devastating assassination of the esteemed civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
This pioneering classroom exercise, which aimed to raise awareness about racial bias and discrimination, was later filmed in 1970 and transformed into the thought-provoking documentary The Eye of the Storm (1970). Moreover, the episode was revisited in 1985, when PBS series Frontline featured a poignant reunion of the original 1970 class, as well as Jane Elliott's subsequent work with adults, in its episode A Class Divided (1985).
