Jan Bucquoy, a renowned anarchist and multifaceted creative individual, hails from Harelbeke, Belgium. His professional journey commenced as a theatre practitioner, subsequently transitioning to cartoon-scriptwriting.
Following his academic pursuits in Strassburg, where he studied theatre, and Brussels, where he earned a degree from Insas, Bucquoy embarked on a remarkable career as a comic book author, penning approximately 50 titles, including notable works such as Daniel Jaunes, Le Bal du Rat Mort (1986),Retour au pays noir, and Alain Moreau.
In collaboration with producer Francis de Smet, Bucquoy co-created the highly acclaimed series La vie sexuelle des Belges 1950-1978 (1994),comprising 10 films and documentaries that delve into the lives of Belgians from the post-war era to the present day. This series boasts a trilogy of notable films, including the surrealist comedy Camping Cosmos (1996),featuring Lolo Ferrari and Jan Decleir, as well as a parody of Tintin and Snowy and Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children.
Furthermore, Bucquoy's work includes Fermeture de l'usine Renault à Vilvoorde (La vie sexuelle des Belges, 3e partie) (1999),a Belgian adaptation of Michael Moore's Roger & Me (1989),and Les vacances de Noël (2005),a film featuring Noël Godin and Yolande Moreau.
