James V. Simpson, a renowned screenwriter, was born and raised in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, a city renowned for the world-famous Stratford Shakespearean Festival. As a youngster, Simpson was consumed by a passion for movies, which led him to spend most of his childhood writing and producing his own films.
This innate love for cinema ultimately drove Simpson to enroll in the prestigious Vancouver Film School, where a distinguished jury of faculty members recognized his exceptional talent by selecting his screenplay for production. Following his time at film school, Simpson entered the thriving Vancouver film industry, where he continued to hone his craft as a screenwriter.
As his career progressed, Simpson achieved great success in the esteemed Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting, where he emerged as one of the top ten finalists in 2006, beating out over six thousand entries. This remarkable achievement not only solidified Simpson's reputation as a talented screenwriter but also opened doors to new opportunities in the industry.
Just a week after being announced as a finalist in the AMPAS Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting, Simpson's screenplay "Armored" became his first script sale to Sony Pictures Entertainment and Screen Gems, marking a significant milestone in his career. Today, Simpson divides his time between Los Angeles and Vancouver, where he resides with his wife and dedicates his free time to volunteering with the British Columbia Guide Dog Society to raise guide dogs for the visually impaired.
