Biography

Biography of Julian Doherty:

Julian Doherty was born in Guildford, Surrey, UK, and received his education at Felsted School in Essex. He was an active member of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and later trained at the Guildford School of Acting, graduating in 1989.

Doherty has had a successful career in the West End, appearing in various musicals such as Les Misérables, Buddy, A Slice of Saturday Night, and Marguerite. He played the role of Amos Hart in the West End production of Chicago at the Cambridge Theatre in 2011, opposite Christie Brinkley, and later reprised this role when the show transferred to the Garrick Theatre, starring alongside America Ferrera.

In the summer of 2012, Doherty appeared in London Road at the Royal National Theatre. He returned to the Royal National Theatre in 2013 for NT:50, a one-off performance celebrating the theatre's 50th birthday, which was broadcast live on BBC2 and around the world.

In 2014, Doherty appeared at The Royal Albert Hall as Gangster 1 in Kiss Me Kate, which was filmed live as part of the BBC Proms season and broadcast on BBC2 on Christmas Day. He began playing the role of Claude in the multi award-winning Come From Away at the Phoenix Theatre London in January 2020, marking over 600 performances.
