Biography

James A. DeVinney boasts an impressive career in developing programs and scripts for broadcasting and cable networks, having earned a plethora of prestigious awards along the way. Among his accolades are four Emmy Awards, with three of those being for outstanding documentary writing and one for his work in children's programming. Additionally, he received an Academy Award nomination, as well as four Peabody Awards, and numerous other journalism awards.

Throughout his career, DeVinney has demonstrated his versatility as a writer, director, and producer, working on a range of programs. One of his most notable achievements was his involvement in the highly acclaimed civil rights series "Eyes on the Prize," for which he wrote, directed, and produced four episodes. Furthermore, he has also written and produced programs for other notable series, including the PBS history series "American Experience," which features episodes such as "The Kennedys" and "The Wizard of Photography." His work has also been featured on the History Channel and Discovery Channel.

In addition to his work in the television industry, DeVinney has also shared his expertise with students, teaching Writing for Television at Boston University for ten years. He currently teaches screenwriting at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne (IPFW).
