Jackie Burroughs, a talented actress, was born on February 2, 1939, in Lancashire, England, United Kingdom. Prior to her film debut, she honed her craft in live theatre at Ontario's renowned Stratford Festival. Her breakthrough role came in The Ernie Game (1967),followed by notable performances in The Grey Fox (1982),earning her a Genie Award, and The Dead Zone (1983).
Burroughs' impressive television credits include the iconic roles of Mrs. Amelia Evans in Anne of Green Gables (1985) and Hetty King in Avonlea (1990),for which she received three Gemini Awards. Her versatility was showcased in A Winter Tan (1987),where she not only acted but also produced, directed, co-wrote, and starred, earning her third Genie Award. Her poignant performance in Lost and Delirious (2001) left a lasting impact on audiences.
Sadly, Jackie Burroughs passed away on September 22, 2010, at her Toronto home, surrounded by close friends and family, due to gastric cancer. She is survived by her daughter, Zoe Yanovsky, from her marriage to the late Zalman Yanovsky, a member of the rock band The Lovin' Spoonful, as well as her partner, Greg Ball. Burroughs is also remembered by her two grandsons, Max and Henry Zalman, their babba Anna, her brother Gary, his wife Sarah, and their daughters Josie and Alex, along with their children, and her goddaughter Maggie.
