Jack Hulbert, the esteemed brother of actor Claude Hulbert, embarked on his illustrious acting career at Cambridge, where he honed his craft by performing in various plays and variety revues. He went on to enjoy a highly successful career on the stage, specializing in comedies and musicals, which earned him widespread recognition and acclaim. His cinematic debut was in the 1930 film "Elstree Calling," where he shared the screen with his loving wife, the talented Cicely Courtneidge. The success he achieved on stage seamlessly transitioned to the big screen, with one of his most cherished and enduring film roles being "Alias Bulldog Drummond" in 1935, a lighthearted tribute to the beloved "Bulldog Drummond" detective series of the era. Nevertheless, his film career began to wane somewhat in the late 1930s, and by the time World War II came to a close, he and his wife had largely abandoned the silver screen, opting to return to their roots on the stage.
