Jan Oliver Lucks, a multifaceted individual, was born in Germany to a mother of Iranian and Indian descent and a German father, thus fostering a unique cultural identity.
In 2005, Lucks made the bold decision to relocate to New Zealand, where he pursued his passion for film at a prestigious institution.
One of his earliest short films, "The Characteristics of C-Minor," a 2014 production, garnered international recognition after being featured on the BBC and screened at over 20 film festivals worldwide.
The following year, his short film "Wilbur Force" premiered at the esteemed New Zealand International Film Festival, subsequently earning the prestigious title of Short of the Week on Vimeo.
This early success led to the development of the documentary "Wilbur: The King in the Ring" (2017),which was picked up by Maori TV and showcased Lucks' versatility as a filmmaker.
Fast-forward to 2021, Lucks released his latest film, "There is No 'I' in Threesome," a remarkable achievement that not only marked his latest creative endeavor but also made history as New Zealand's first feature film to become a HBO Max Original, solidifying his position as a pioneering filmmaker.
