Biography

Izabella Miko, a talented thespian, was born in Poland to accomplished parents, Grazyna Dylag and Aleksander Mikolajczak. From a young age, she demonstrated a remarkable affinity for dance, being able to dance before she could even walk. At the tender age of 10, she began to pursue her dream career as a ballerina, and her dedication earned her a spot at the prestigious National Ballet School in Warsaw.

Despite her passion and talent, Izabella's teachers expressed concerns about her flexibility limitations, which would later prove to be a significant obstacle in her career. Nevertheless, she persevered, and at the age of 15, she was recruited to study at the School of American Ballet in New York on a full scholarship. However, her body could no longer withstand the rigorous demands of a seven-day-a-week ballet-training schedule, and she suffered a series of injuries to her vertebrae, knee, and ankle, ultimately ending her career as a professional ballerina.

At the tender age of 17, Izabella found herself wondering what career path she would follow to fill the void left by dance. During her recovery in Warsaw, a casting director approached her parents with an opportunity to star in a TV movie, "Lithuania You're My Motherland". Although hesitant, Izabella accepted the role, unaware of the doors it would open for her in the world of acting.

Upon her 18th birthday, Izabella returned to America, where she began training at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Her dedication and passion for acting led her to land a series of roles, including the iconic part of "Cammie" in Jerry Bruckheimer's Coyote Ugly (2000). This breakout role catapulted her to stardom, earning her magazine covers and billboards.

Izabella's subsequent roles included leading parts in J.S. Cardone's The Forsaken (2001) and Minimal Knowledge (2002),as well as appearances in The Shore (2005),starring alongside Lesley Ann Warren and Ben Gazzara. She then starred alongside Derek Jacobi and Michael Lonsdale in Bye Bye Blackbird (2005),showcasing her versatility as an actress.

Her portrayal of Alice, a circus trapeze artist in the early 1900s, in Bye Bye Blackbird (2005) was a testament to her innate talents, and she prepared for this role with a rigorous three-month training schedule on both the flying and static trapeze. Izabella's impressive display of acrobatic skills, combined with her rapid learning of tightrope walking, earned her a part-time role as Raia, a member of the "Circus of Crime" circus troop, in the 2011 NBC series The Cape (2011).
