Biography

Ivaylo Hristov, a renowned Bulgarian actor and director, was born on December 10, 1955, in Sofia, Bulgaria. He pursued his passion for the performing arts by graduating from the department of acting at the prestigious National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia.

Following his academic success, Hristov began his professional journey by working at the Sliven drama theatre "Stefan Kirov". His impressive performances caught the attention of the Theatre of Bulgarian Army in Sofia, where he joined the team as an actor in 1985. Throughout his career, he has taken on over 50 roles in theatre productions and more than 20 in feature films.

As a director, Hristov has showcased his versatility by staging productions such as "Accidental Death of an Anarchist", "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll", and "Graduate", among others. His teaching career also began in 1992, when he started lecturing at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts, his alma mater.

In 1988, Hristov played the lead role in Georgi Djulgerov's film "AcaDaMuS", for which he also co-wrote the screenplay. His directorial debut, "Emigrants" (2003),co-directed with Lyudmil Todorov, garnered several national awards and recognition at various film festivals. "Footsteps in the Sand" (2010) was another notable film that participated in the competition at the 32nd Moscow International Film Festival.

Hristov is also the author of the book "The Actor in Cinema", which showcases his expertise in the field. He was one of the founders of the prestigious Bulgarian theatre awards, Askeer. Five years after the release of "Footsteps in the Sand", Hristov directed "Losers", a heartwarming coming-of-age story shot in black and white by the renowned Bulgarian cinematographer, Emil Christov. His work on "Losers" earned him the Golden George award at the Moscow International Film Festival.
