Ivan Kusan's life began in a family of note, as his father Jaksa Kusan was a respected bookstore owner with an extensive network of friends and acquaintances among Sarajevo's intellectual elite. This esteemed family background would undoubtedly influence Kusan's future endeavors.
In 1939, the family relocated to Zagreb, where Ivan, at the tender age of 10, first put pen to paper and wrote his inaugural novel. These multifaceted talents would eventually propel Kusan to international recognition as a renowned children's book author, with his debut novel published in 1956.
Following the publication of his first novel, Kusan went on to work at the Zagreb radio station, where he honed his skills and built a reputation as a talented and versatile individual. Between 1980 and his retirement in 1994, Kusan taught Dramaturgy at the prestigious Zagreb Drama Academy, sharing his expertise with the next generation of artists and writers.
Throughout his life, Kusan was married twice and has a son, Daniel, from his previous marriage.
