Ilham Heydar oghlu Aliyev, a prominent Azerbaijani politician, was born on December 24, 1961.
As the son and second child of the former Azerbaijani president Heydar Aliyev, Ilham Aliyev's political journey began early on.
He rose to prominence, becoming the country's prime minister for a brief two-month term, preceding his ascension to the presidency on October 31, 2003.
Aliyev's presidential election, marked by irregularities, took place shortly before his father's passing, cementing his position as the fourth and current president of Azerbaijan.
Reelected for a second term in 2008, Aliyev's political influence grew, allowing him to run in subsequent elections indefinitely.
This was made possible by the 2009 constitutional referendum, which removed term limits for presidents, enabling Aliyev to continue his leadership without restriction.
Throughout his electoral campaigns, Aliyev remained a stalwart member of the ruling party, solidifying his grip on power.
As a result, Aliyev has successfully run in elections multiple times, including in 2013, 2018, and 2024, further entrenching his position as the leader of Azerbaijan.
