Ibrahim Ashmawey was born in Washington D.C. and spent his childhood in Baltimore, Michigan, London, New York, and Egypt before settling in Southern California.
As the second of four children, Ibrahim developed a passion for film from a young age, often filming family vacations to experiment with camera techniques and movements.
Growing up in Troy, Michigan, Ibrahim's interest in film was complemented by his involvement in sports like football and boxing, but he eventually found his true calling in acting.
After landing a small role in "James and the Giant Peach", Ibrahim discovered his love for acting and went on to play the lead role of Stanley Kowalski in "A Streetcar Named Desire" during his high school days.
In addition to taking film classes at the University of Michigan, Ibrahim co-founded AshmaweyFilms with his brother Omar, writing and shooting numerous short films for their production company as well as other companies.
Their first production was a series of commercials for a local travel agency, followed by a string of short films that gained international recognition through film festivals.
In 2010, Ibrahim and his brother began working on their first full-length feature, "Boiling Pot", which is based on true events of racism that occurred on college campuses across the nation in 2008.
With a talented cast featuring Academy Award winner Louis Gossett Jr., Emmy winner Keith David, Danielle Fishel, John Heard, M. Emmet Walsh, and Davetta Sherwood, they shot "Boiling Pot" in January 2013 and are set to complete the film in January 2014.
