Ian Somerhalder, a native of Covington, Louisiana, was raised in a small southern town with a rich cultural heritage. His mother, Edna Israel, a massage therapist, and father, Robert Somerhalder, a building contractor, instilled in him a strong sense of family values and a deep connection to his Cajun, English, and Scots-Irish ancestry.
As a young boy, Ian's days were filled with a variety of activities, including boating, swimming, fishing, and training horses. He was also an avid participant in the school drama club and local theater group, showcasing his natural talent for performance. With his mother's encouragement, Ian began his modeling career at the tender age of 10, traveling to New York each summer to hone his skills.

Now based in New York, Ian divides his time between studying acting, writing, and practicing yoga. He remains committed to his craft, constantly seeking to improve and refine his skills.
