After an eight-year hiatus, he returned to the BBC in 1975, this time as the Head of Music and Arts, a role he retained until 1981. During this period, he was also a key founder-member of London Weekend Television, a commercial television network.

Throughout his illustrious career, he has garnered widespread recognition for his work as a director, including four Emmy Awards, two British Academy Awards, and numerous other accolades. As a presenter, he has received the prestigious Royal Television Society Silver medal and the Sony Gold Award, among others.
