Howard Wexler, a renowned Director of Photography, was born and raised in the vibrant city of Hollywood, California. His formative years were spent in the Boy Scouts, where he developed a passion for music, playing the saxophone, and capturing life's moments through still photography.
A fateful family evening watching the 1964 film The Professionals, photographed by the esteemed Conrad Hall, ASC, left an indelible mark on Howard. He was instantly captivated by the art of cinematography and decided then and there to pursue a career as a Director of Photography.
Howard's journey began at the University of Southern California's Cinema program, where he honed his skills and knowledge. He then interned under the tutelage of Mario Tosi, a renowned Director of Photography. Howard's experiences in Europe working for various film companies as a camera assistant, driver, projectionist, and copywriter for English advertisements further refined his craft.
After a year of employment with a Munich-based camera rental and film production company, Howard returned to Hollywood, where he assisted numerous well-known Directors of Photography, edited several projects, and began his Director of Photography career on low-budget features. With a prolific career spanning over 100 features, Howard has consistently demonstrated his ability to set up cameras and lighting quickly and efficiently, earning him a reputation as one of the fastest Directors of Photography in the industry.
In addition to his feature film work, Howard has also shot numerous educational, documentary, and corporate productions, 2nd unit, aerials, and title sequences. He co-produced two features for 21st Century Inc. and produced, directed, and photographed a romantic comedy feature, Loving Lulu, which premiered exclusively on HBO and received favorable reviews in Variety.
In 2009, Howard directed and co-produced a science fiction feature, Infection: The Invasion Begins, which was acquired for distribution by Moving Pictures Film and TV and sold to Morningstar Entertainment for exclusive North American DVD rights. The film continues to find a worldwide audience and is available on Amazon Prime.
Howard's extensive credits include feature films such as Reform School Girls, Angel 111, Arizona Heat, Banzai Runner, Intimate Power, Echoes of Enlightenment, Hope Ranch, The Read Deal, and seven films as Director of Photography for Producer/Director Andy Sidaris, including Hard Ticket to Hawaii, and Return to Savage Beach. For the past several years, Howard has worked on numerous projects for Full Moon Features, producer Charlie Band.
