Born in the vibrant city of Tokyo in the year 1962, a young individual with a passion for storytelling, initially envisioned a career as a novelist. However, after graduating from the prestigious Waseda University in 1987, this individual's trajectory took a dramatic turn, as they transitioned into the world of television, becoming an assistant director at the renowned T.V. Man Union.
It was during this time that a sense of restlessness began to stir, as this individual would often sneak away from the set to pursue their own creative endeavors. One such project, "Mou hitotsu no kyouiku - Ina shogakkou haru gumi no kiroku," filmed in 1991, marked the beginning of a new chapter in their artistic journey.
Years later, in 1995, this individual's first feature-length film, "Maborosi," was brought to life. Based on a novel by Teru Miyamoto and deeply personal, drawing inspiration from their own experiences while working on "August Without Him" in 1994, "Maborosi" went on to win prestigious awards at the Venice and Chicago film festivals.
