Hiro Kanagawa is a renowned Vancouver-based actor and writer, whose multifaceted career has spanned over three decades.
Born in Sapporo, Japan, Kanagawa spent his childhood in Guelph, Ontario, and Sterling Heights, Michigan, before attending International Christian University High School in Tokyo, where he began acting in student films and stage productions.
After returning to the United States, he attended Middlebury College in Vermont, the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, before ultimately settling in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Since 1990, Kanagawa's impressive career has earned him numerous stage awards and distinctions in his native Canada.
Internationally, he is perhaps best known for his recurring roles and guest appearances on popular American television series such as Altered Carbon, The X-Files, iZombie, and Smallville, as well as memorable comedic turns in hits like Best in Show and Supernatural.
As a screenwriter, Kanagawa has earned critical acclaim for his work on the Canadian series Da Vinci's Inquest, Da Vinci's City Hall, Intelligence, and Blackstone, serving as story editor on each project.
In addition to his screenwriting credits, Kanagawa is also an accomplished playwright, having received the 2017 Governor-General's Literary Award for Drama for his play Indian Arm.
