Born in Detroit, Hilliard's formative years were shaped by his experiences growing up in the neighborhood near San Francisco, where he was one of five siblings, earning the nickname "The Cosby Show in the Ghetto". This upbringing would later influence his writing style and subject matter.
With a background in acting and dancing, Hilliard transitioned to screenwriting over 16 years ago, bringing a unique perspective to the craft. He is known for his knack for writing underdog and redemption stories, often incorporating elements of horror, gritty realism, and murder-death-kill themes into his work.
Hilliard's expertise in screenwriting has earned him recognition and awards at various film festivals and competitions, including Sundance, Nicholls Fellowship, Scriptapalooza, Screenplay Festival, The Page Awards, and AOF.
In addition to his writing accomplishments, Hilliard is also an active member of the Writers Guild of America, serving on several committees, including Vice Chair of the Committee of Black Writers and Vice Chair of the LGBT Committee, as well as the Latino, Genre, and Education Committees. In 2007, he received the prestigious Guy A. Hanks, Marvin H. Miller Fellowship at USC.
Hilliard is a prolific writer, producer, and podcaster, with a range of projects under his belt. Through his company Hilldog Productions, he produces TV pilots, POC's, shorts, web series, and documentaries. His office is located at The LOT Studios in West Hollywood.
Some of Hilliard's notable produced projects include "The Providers", a drama pilot featuring a predominantly black cast; "Architects of Crime", a sci-fi movie with a predominantly black cast; "Full Circle - Story of The New Dimensions", a 60s music/bio documentary; "Don't Date The DJ", a comedy pilot; "iCommit", a crime pilot; "Tainted", a supernatural teen pilot featuring a predominantly black cast; "Faux Show", a comedy pilot; "Mouthpiece", a comedy feature; "The Unwritten Rules", a hit comedy web series; "Blackout", an indie horror film that sold internationally; "Troublesome", a critically acclaimed drama short; "The Last Girl", an award-winning martial arts action short; and "4Closure", a hilarious short dramedy.
Hilliard also hosts the popular podcast series "Screenwriter's Rant Room", which can be heard worldwide on iTunes and Stitcher.
