Born on December 13, 1973, in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, he relocated to Tijuana, Baja California, at a young age, where he completed his basic studies and received his only formal acting training.
From 1992 to 2000, he was a member of the theater company La Divina Fauna, directed by Edward Coward, where he honed his craft.
Between 1997 and 1998, he earned a degree in Theater from the Northwest Performing Arts Center, and subsequently, from 1999 to 2000, he graduated with a degree in Dance from the same institution.
As an assistant director, he worked alongside Daniele Finzi Pasca from 2001 to 2003, collaborating on productions in Mexico, Switzerland, Italy, and Scotland.
His first cinematic endeavor was in 2003, with the film Innocent Voices, but it was 2006's Nacho Libre that marked the beginning of his prolific career in film.
In 2008, he was honored with a star on the Walk of Fame in his hometown of Tijuana.
In 2009, he co-founded the production company Blind Productions with his brothers Olga and Juan.
In 2014, he received a nomination for the Goddess of Silver award for his role in the film Kisses of Sugar, and previously, in 2007, he was nominated for Best Fight Scene at the MTV Movie Awards for Nacho Libre, as well as the Teen Choice Awards for the same film.
