Biography

Kathleen Harrison's acting career was marked by her iconic portrayal of Matron in a quartet of films, including Carry on Nurse (1959),Carry on Doctor (1967),Carry on Again Doctor (1969),and Carry on Matron (1972),with her catchphrase "Ooh, Matron!" becoming a defining characteristic.

Throughout her career, Harrison took on a range of key roles, such as Grace Short in Carry on Teacher (1959),Sophie Bliss in Carry on Loving (1970),and Peggy Hawkins in Carry on Cabby (1963),showcasing her versatility as an actress.

Her personal life was also noteworthy, as she was married to John Le Mesurier, who played the role of Sergeant Wilson in the popular British sitcom Dad's Army (1968). However, the couple's marriage ended in divorce, although they remained close friends.

Harrison's unexpected beauty and charm allowed her to play parts that often relied on and poked fun at her weight. In Carry on Cabby (1963),she had the opportunity to break free from her typical "dragon" persona and take on a more romantic lead opposite Sidney James.

Tragically, Harrison's life was cut short when she passed away at the age of 58 due to a heart attack.
